KFC BUCKET CAKE
I am very used to making girly cakes with flowers, fairies, butterflies and pastel buttercream but I also get asked to make some interesting cakes for boys (or in this case men). It is obvious the birthday celebrant likes KFC so his friends asked me to make a replica of a bucket of the food chains' famous chicken. The "chicken" on top is made of fondant and the Colonel's face is handpainted with food colouring. It is made of belgian chocolate mud cake- it took 3 cake rounds glued together with chocolate ganache and stacked on top of each other. The whole cake was about 14 inches tall and weighed close to 7 kg!

For the Meat Lovers a TBone Steak Cake! This is a belgian chocolate mud cake covered and decorated with sugar fondant. This cake came complete with steamed carrots and broccoli florets also made with fondant. You normally do not eat soba noodles with your steak but in this particular case I was asked to make some to put on the side. Instead of the normal "well done, medium or rare" steak flags I wrote "Happy Birthday".

The purple butterflies also had Happy Birthday embossed on them too! I had plenty of fun making the small castles but they could have been better -if i were equipped with very delicate hands!

Lilacs and Roses

This is a mocha sponge cake with coffee flavoured buttercream icing. I piped the buttercream roses and lilacs- I wish I had the same lovely flowers growing in my garden too.

I have been asked to use hand piped buttercream roses on cakes numerous times. It is so much easier now ever since I used Ateco's rose flower nail.
On an entirely different topic, I like collecting these beautifully designed gift tags. I love the colours and also the designs- most especially the Sweet Treats.

Mum's Birthday Cake

My mum and I used to work at the same patisserie a few years ago. I decided to make her a cake that has all of the things she uses every day- except for the frangipanis. Only the chef cake topper is plastic ( it is the character from the movie Ratatouille- she resembles my mum) The rest are made of fondant including the mini cupcake.

75th Birthday Cake

This cake is a big change from the usual floral and girly cakes that I am accustomed to. I have made christening and birthday cupcakes for little boys before but this one is for a gentleman who is turning an impressive 75! Obviously, they have requested me to make a cake that pays some homage to his favourite sport of golf.

The golf ball, clubs and the bag are all handmade from fondant.
